In the late 1960’s there was a sudden awakening of the spirit, and thousands of young people began to come alive to a more enlightened understanding of reality. Not that we knew how to apply it, but at least we began to agree on what the spiritual fundamentals are. This was the beginning of a time of revelation, when, for a moment, the clouds parted and we saw the heavenly possibilities of our human existence.

And what are these revelations? Mostly they are centered around oneness, love, and the importance of being present. They all speak to the increase of the presence of God in our lives. They all encourage us to get together.

Some of us had had these moments as children, but with no witnesses to verify our experience and no culture to relate it to, it got buried. But as we began to find each other and to discover that many of us were awakening to the same insights, we began to feel empowered to make something of these experiences. We had hope that by getting together with like-minded people, we could begin to rebuild civilization on a new spiritual foundation.

Wherever this hope congeals into action, community is born. We call this community “THE LOVE FAMILY “. It is a vast community comprised of all those who know we are united in love.

As a conscious family, we know that we have to learn to integrate our higher truths into a way of life, and to help each other bring our personalities and our culture into alignment with these truths. It is global transformation initiated at the very personal level of “ you” and “me” and refined in our everyday interactions.

Or, as the Beatles put it:

“ I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together.”

And speaking of the Beatles, don’t you remember hearing the words of Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band for the first time, and knowing that they must be on the same path as you?

Within You Without You

Writer, lead vocal: George Harrison

We were talking-about the space between us all
And the people-who hide themselves behind a wall of illusion
Never glimpse the truth-then it's far too late-when they pass away.

We were talking-about the love we all could share-when we find it
To try our best to hold it there-with our love
With our love-we could save the world-if they only knew.

Try to realize it's all within yourself
No-one else can make you change
And to see you're really only very small,
And life flows within you and without you.

We were talking-about the love that's gone so cold and the people,
Who gain the world and lose their soul-
They don't know-they can't see-are you one of them?

When you've seen beyond yourself-then you may find, peace of mind,
Is waiting there-
And the time will come when you see
we're all one, and life flows on within you and without you.

This was 1967, the Summer of Love, and suddenly it seemed like everyone was waking up to the liberating possibility that “Love is all you need.”

Why? Why Now?

What had happened in the mind of man that could account for this sudden explosion of shared awakening?

Our answer to that question is contained in the history of our personal revelations. By recounting these experiences to one another, we have discovered that our revelations perfectly compliment one another, and that taken all together, they tell a story that is both ancient and profoundly promising.

If we had to pick a starting place for telling this chapter of the story, it would be in that year of awakening, 1968, with a man riding on a Greyhound bus through Texas. This was a man like many of us, for whom, discovering “the truth” had become an obsession. Nothing was more important. Nothing that the world had to offer seemed worth anything. And out of that intense desire to know, he began to have some extraordinary revelations.

On this bus ride, the man experienced something that was the culmination of an earlier revelation that he had only partially understood. Once again, it came as a beautiful metaphorical vision. In the vision, what looked like a white stone was coming from God as a gift to all mankind. On the stone was written a word--and that word was “LOVE”.

The man understood that this was God’s name and our name, God’s nature and our nature; And in time he realized that he had to claim it as his own personal name also, and to begin to represent its reality to everyone around him. Having been shown what he had prayed for, his job now was to assure mankind of the fundamental truth that

LOVE IS REAL.

He began to share these experiences with others, and soon a small community began to form around him. Some of his experiences were the very confirmation that people needed for them to own up to their own revelations. Some of his experiences inspired others to continue their search until they were as convinced as he was.

As the Love Family began to congeal, the revelations began to abound. And what started out as simply “ love” and “oneness” began to take on more definition. Recognition began to happen. It started with Love. Some of us had moments when we looked at Love and knew him by that name. “You really are Love!”

But not just with Love, we were being gifted with moments of higher perception in which we actually recognized each other as ancient familiar beings whom we have always known: and , like recognizing Love , we began to recognize which aspect of Love that we each represented. “ I know who you are, you’re Charity.” “You’re Patience.”

It became clear that we were an ancient people coming back together, and by putting ourselves together, we were creating a bigger personality--a personality in which, all together, we embodied the Love of God.

Then, much to our surprise, things turned Biblical.

We started witnessing other transformations of our features. One moment we were looking at the face of an ancient friend, and the next moment we were seeing a morphing collage of familiar ancient faces, finally all merging together into one face--the face of Jesus Christ.

Something irreversible happens at that moment.

Suddenly you’ve seen the face of this person that you had heard about all your life, and you completely recognize him; and you know that you have known him forever. Not only that, as he looks at you, he communicates to you that you are totally forgiven. He is not your judge. He is the authority of God assuring you that you are ok, that, in fact, you aren’t really separate from him at all. He is appearing to you to assure you of this. He is assuring you that the wall that existed between you and him isn’t real. That, somehow, you and He are the very same person. “ I am He as you are He as you are me and we are altogether.”

And suddenly, in an instant, we become the real witnesses of Jesus Christ.

So, does this suddenly make us Christians? It certainly makes us believers of Jesus Christ; no, more than believers, we are knowers, true witnesses. But what about all that religious stuff? Going to church, reading the Bible. The Bible? If Jesus Christ is real, then maybe the Bible is real. Suddenly the book that told the story of this famous being became a subject of great interest. We began to read it with an eye for what it had to say about what was happening to us.

And what we found blew our mind.

All of a sudden, this most popular book in all the world, opened itself up to us and became our book. In it we found our story—the story of how God created man out of Himself, but separate from Himself, and then tried to create a people that would honor and respect Him and His creation (The seed of Abraham, The Children of Israel). About how that effort failed (the Old Testament); but then how God entered all the way into His own creation by being born as a human baby and growing up and maturing as a man among men, to show the meaning and the reality of Love, to reconnect the God that He is to the man that He also is, and to give us the promise that we would find our way back to our unity with Him and with each other.

“Father I pray that they all may be one; as thou father art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us . . . that they may be made perfect in one.” The disciple John quoting Jesus

It all became clear. We were being chosen to be the recipients of an ancient blessing and to experience the fulfillment of ancient prophesy.
